The South Beach Diet - Phase Three:

Phase Three: Maintenance
("A Diet For Life")

In the third and final phase of the diet, a more liberal diet is allowed, giving you a great range of foods while allowing you to maintain your ideal weight.

By now, you should be able to eliminate the 3 daily snacks, in exchange for a little more indulgence at mealtimes.

Now you can each such foods as multigrain bread, brown rice, and so on ... just remember to keep away from white-flour based foods, and watch your sugar intake.

The South Beach Diet is designed so you can change phases as your situation changes. If you've been slack and gained just an extra pound or two, you may wish to return to phase two for a time.

Likewise, if you've well and truly fallen off the wagon (as often happens during the Christmas season, for example), go back to phase one for a brief time, continuing to phase two after a couple of weeks.

By the way, the South Beach diet book contains daily menus and recipes for all three phases of the diet ... highly recommended.

I also discovered another great book by Michel Montignac, called "Michel Montignac Recipes and Menus". A truly gourmet approach, this includes recipes that are simply stunning, and fit within the South Beach Diet way of eating.
